Currently, we see over 3,000 clients a month. We have won global and local recognition, including from the Centre for Health Market Innovations, the Gates Foundation, Savings Lives at Birth, and Innovations in Healthcare – and our facility has been independently rated as among the highest quality in Kenya.
We are expanding to new locations and require additional Charge Nurse for upcoming location in Nairobi. Reporting to the Branch Manager, you will take on responsibility of overseeing the Nursing care of the branch by managing resources and staff, growing the locations revenue, delivering quality client experience and maintaining superior patient satisfaction.

Education
Hold a diploma or degree in nursing from a recognized university/ (medical training) college
Hold an active Nursing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya
Experience
Should have more than 5 years’ experience in Maternity or MCH/FP working as a licensed Nurse/Midwife in a busy maternity institution and experience in working in a start-up maternity facility
Should have experience acting as a shift supervisor or holding other leadership positions in the past
Should have at least 4 years’ working experience in obstetrics and gynaecology with 1 year working in an inpatient labour ward
Experience caring for high-risk conditions including hypertension/preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, multiple gestations and history of poor obstetrics outcomes
Neonatal/Paediatric or reproductive health nursing is an added advantage
Knowledge and Skills Requirements
Thorough knowledge of all of the nursing SOPs
Familiarity with CTG machines, use, and interpretation of CTG strip
Experience coordinating meetings and conducting didactic presentations
Strong communication and interpersonal skills. This includes the ability to provide professional feedback of both in both constructive and complimentary styles.
Ability to write professional emails, data reports, and monthly summaries of outcomes and actions
Excellent analytical reasoning skills and meticulous attention to detail

Duties and Responsibilities
Administrative
Assists with or leads key monthly meetings such as nurses meetings, PCA meetings or others as assigned
Leads initiatives as assigned by Branch manager (i.e.–following up to ensure all staff understand new packages or other business initiatives)
Ensures that nursing rota is optimized for both cost efficiencies in line with budget whilst also ensuring that a balance of experience and skills on each shift
Reports key data and managerial summaries as requested
Participates in decision making regarding patient flow (admissions/discharges/transfers)
Adapts work plan to change in unit workload (ie, increasing staff available when needed etc.)
Seeks assistance from Branch Manager with staffing issues;
Oversees completion of unit specific administrative tasks (e.g., staff assignments, equipment checks, emergency response tray check)
Collaborates with other health care disciplines/departments (Reception, Dietary, Housekeeping, Pharmacy, Security etc.) to maintain communication and provide optimal level of patient care
Informs Branch Manager of hospital issues and concerns
Identifies, labels and reports defective equipment
Uses Jacaranda tools and systems as required
Clinical
Provides overall monitoring of the branch terms of clinical operations.
Ensure shift supervisors at night are held accountable for quality of care
Constantly highlights potential problems ahead of time and acts to reduce clinical risks
Coordinates the daily handovers between shifts–ensuring excellent documentation and well organized and clear communication
Develops and fills clinical checklists as required to document clinical actions, performance, and areas to improve
Proactively moves resources around when there are backlogs in either inpatient or outpatient services
Ensures that staff are fully documenting clinical encounters, key data, and other relevant information in honest and transparent and professional manner
Directly participates in clinical care in urgent situations such as sudden inpatient numbers surges or unexpected complications
Acts as an effective, honest, and timely communicator that links clinical and non-clinical teams
Provides mentorship and strengthens clinical practice of the clinical team;
Coordinates with the practice development midwife for upskilling of staff
Coordinates clinical-ward orientations for new hires. Is responsible for new hire knowledge acquisition related to clinical SOPs
Assists in responding to, documenting, and taking remedial actions in the event of clinical errors, mistakes or gaps
Keeps informed about the status of all patients
Monitors and evaluates in nursing care provided by nurses/midwives and patient care assistants;
Demonstrates accountability for directing and delegating nursing care to others within the clinical environment;
Quality Improvement
Is a key leader in the review of the monthly clinical dashboard, and is the key person who ensures follow actions are taken based on clinical dashboard results
Is an implementation partner and/or observing partner for any Performance Improvement Plans issued to nurses or PCAs
Performs standardized quality audits
Performs daily data collection via checklists, qualitative observations, and other techniques that highlight any problem areas
Coordinates staff education (Case review, clinical drills etc.)
Coordinates and participates in RCAs and maintains transparency and unbiasedness when providing feedback relating to the clinical knowledge and acumen of nursing staff
Staff-Related
Provides guidance to staff members as appropriate
Holds staff accountable to organizational standards
Assesses performance of staff and provides feedback to the Branch Manager
Additional duties as assigned
