Overcome

Summary Designed to equip Kenya's aspiring mental health professionals with the skills and practical client-facing experience they need to land a full-time role. Interns complete an intensive one-month crash course covering a toolkit of evidence-based techniques from Motivational Interviewing, Coaching, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). They then provide free online, one-to-one coaching to clients based in kenya and around the world who'd otherwise be unable to afford it. They start with clients who just want to change their behaviour (e.g., diet, sleep, reducing procrastination), and work their way up to clients with depression or anxiety. About Us Overcome is a UK-registered charity (Charity Number: 1191308), providing online mental health coaching worldwide, particularly to underserved communities in developing countries. We are a trusted industrial attachment placement provider for leading universities such as UCL, Bath, and Loughborough in the UK. Overview This internship is a fully remote, unpaid, full-time (~30 hours/week) role. We provide a monthly living expense stipend of 10,500 ksh. Responsibilities 1st month: Intensive training in evidence-based techniques from motivational interviewing, coaching, CBT, and ACT. Activities include live workshops, self-study, quizzes, role-plays and assessments. 2nd and 3rd month: Provide one-to-one online coaching, initially addressing behaviour change and progressing to depression and anxiety. Maintain accurate session records and attend weekly supervision with a counselling psychologist based in Kenya and monthly supervision with a UK-accredited counsellor. Opportunities to train future cohorts, assist with recruitment roleplays, and develop coaching resources. Post-Internship Opportunities Some clients may pay for extended coaching sessions, mutually agreed upon between you and the client. You keep 100% of the fee and are paid directly. We intend to hire anyone whose performance is truly exceptional. We pay at least $500 monthly, growing up to $2000 PCM over three years. Historically, we've hired 10% of Kenyan's who've interned with us. Recruitment Process Three rounds of selection to accept the top 5% of applicants: CV Screening (90% pass rate) - Shortlisting suitable candidates based on CVs. We’re mainly checking that you’ll be able to commit full-time for the full 3 months. Roleplay assessment where you put the theory into action (30% pass rate) - Assesses charisma, empathy, and ability to think on your feet through a simulated client session, applying previously learned theory. Successful applicants will be onboarded to the team around one week before the start date. Unsuccessful applicants who have completed the role-play assessment will receive tailored feedback during the week of the internship start date. We accept monthly cohorts on a rolling basis.
