Kenya Maritime Authority was set up in June 2004 as the semi-autonomous agency in charge of regulatory oversight over the Kenyan maritime industry. As the pacesetter of the Kenyan maritime industry, the Authority seeks to strengthen maritime administration in Kenya through enhancement of regulatory and institutional capacities for maritime safety and security, to foster effective implementation of international maritime conventions and other mandatory instruments on safety, security, promote maritime training, Search and Rescue, pollution prevention and the preservation of the marine environment as well as promote trade facilitation and maritime investments.Key Responsibilities Assist in the administration of the Kenyan Seafarers Register. Assist in the issuance of seafarer identification documents. Assist in the implementing of Board’s and management committee decision in seafarers’ registration and welfare; Assist in the aid of abandoned seafarers. Assist in providing directions on the delivery of deceased seafarer’s property. Assist in the engagement and discharge of Kenyan seafarers; Assist in the conduct of maritime labour audits for Kenyan ships Assist in the issuance of Declaration of Maritime Labour Compliance Part I Assist in the issuance of Maritime Labour Certificates in accordance with the Maritime Labour Convention and national legislation. Assist in the monitoring of Medical Practitioners for Seafarer Medical examination; Assist in monitoring seafarers’ recruitment and Placement Agencies; Assist in developing medical standards and procedures for issuance of medical certificates and recognition of medical practitioners; Assist in developing and implementing standards on conditions for employment of seafarers; Assist in developing and enforcing seafarers’ complaint handling procedures; Qualifications & Skills Bachelor’s Degree Nautical Science
