Role Summary

Akoth Ogolla & Company Advocates is seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Advocate to lead and manage its property transactions and conveyancing practice in Nairobi. This is a high-responsibility role for a lawyer capable of operating independently and managing a substantial conveyancing docket with minimal supervision. The successful candidate will oversee the full transactional process, from initial instruction through to completion, ensuring accuracy and professionalism in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate Sale Agreements and other property transaction documents.
  • Manage property transactions from instruction to completion, including preparing completion statements and transaction checklists.
  • Conduct and review title due diligence, property searches, and legal reviews of title documents.
  • Coordinate all legal documentation required for completion and manage transaction timelines.
  • Handle correspondence with other advocates, banks, and stakeholders.
  • Advise clients on transaction processes, legal requirements, risks, and next steps.
  • Manage transactions involving bank-financed purchases, redemption of charges, and securities documentation.
  • Supervise internal clerical support for searches, filings, and registry processes.
  • Support and coordinate property work arising from two satellite offices.

Requirements

  • Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with at least 3+ years Post-Admission Experience (PQE).
  • Substantial experience in residential, commercial, and developer-oriented property transactions.
  • Strong technical skills in contract drafting and legal review with high attention to detail.
  • In-depth knowledge of property conveyancing processes, completion mechanics, and undertakings.
  • Practical familiarity with Lands Registry processes, including Ardhisasa.
  • Ability to manage multiple live matters simultaneously under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills and professional judgment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with off-plan sales, development transactions, or project sales documentation.
  • Specific experience in bank-related property purchases and securities documentation.
