Role Summary

Sotik Tea Companies is seeking a Plant Mechanic based in Bomet County to service, maintain, and repair self-propelled tea harvesting machines and related plant equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose and fix mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine faults.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and complete overhauls of engines, transmissions, and cooling systems.
• Overhaul hydraulic pumps and motors and interpret technical manuals and diagrams.
• Respond to field breakdowns promptly, especially during peak harvesting periods.
• Maintain accurate maintenance and service records.
• Ensure compliance with estate safety and operational standards.
• Manage the safe custody of assigned spares, tools, and equipment.
• Liaise with machine operators and supervisors regarding machine performance.

Requirements

• Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Plant Option) or a Craft Certificate in Plant Mechanics.
• At least 5 years of experience working with tractors, plant machines, and tea harvesting machinery.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and basic electrics.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Willingness to work extended hours during peak tea seasons.

Nice to Have

• Previous experience in a busy agricultural or plant machinery environment.
• Experience with self-propelled tea harvesters (specifically Valiant or Ochiai models).
• Valid driving license (Class B, C, C1).
• Experience in auto-electrical repairs and welding.
