Company Description TungaMiti is a Kenyan smallholder value chain development and trading business that partners with farmers to establish and manage sustainable timber and tree crops. We provide technical support, market access and long-term income opportunities for farmers. We have acquired rights to over 8,000 hectares of timber plantations and hold more than 40,000 farm contracts with approximately 20,000 farmers.

Role Description As a TungaMiti Sales Officer for Timber Trading, you will be responsible for gathering market intelligence and managing buyer engagement and sales execution for timber under farmer networks. This role will require you to work closely with the Farmer Facing Valuation team and Finance. While ensuring transparent, compliant and efficient timber sales that deliver value to farmers, buyers and TungaMiti. You will be directly involved in market data collection, buyer outreach, bid and order management and supporting end-to-end sales execution from offer to sale. This is a mostly field-based role, ideal for someone who is commercially driven, detail-oriented and thrives on relationship building in fast-paced environments. 

Key Responsibilities Market Intelligence: Gather and analyse buyer data on species, sizes, pricing, volumes, and quality to understand demand. Use insights to track market trends and guide pricing, positioning, and sales strategy. Buyer Shortlisting and Vetting: Maintain a verified buyer database, including due diligence on licensing, financials, and track record. Prioritise and prequalify reliable buyers based on demand, capacity, and past performance Competitive Offer Process and Sales Execution: Manage the end-to-end sales process, from issuing offers to evaluating bids and confirming payments. Coordinate with internal teams to ensure compliance, accurate valuation, and smooth execution. After-Sales Support and Buyer Feedback: Follow up with buyers to ensure satisfaction on quality, delivery, and communication. Capture feedback and maintain relationships to drive repeat business and strengthen the trading model.

Qualifications We’re looking for a strong sales professional with experience working with timber traders and an understanding of the local market. You should be able to navigate sales and operational challenges and deliver consistent results in the field.

The ideal candidate will bring: At least 1 year of experience in sales execution, ideally at Officer level or equivalent within the forestry, agribusiness or related sectors. Proven ability to maintain high performance and meet sales or operational targets in fast-paced, resource-constrained environments. Familiarity with digital tools for marketing, data collection, team tracking and performance monitoring. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage stakeholders across the timber value chain, build market trust and resolve conflict professionally. High levels of personal integrity, resilience and adaptability in rural field environments. Ability to work respectfully and effectively with diverse communities and adapt to different cultural contexts and practices.
