24 Apr 2026 The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has been recognised by the Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK) for its outstanding contribution to press freedom. The award was presented at the AMWIK annual conference 2026, in recognition of the MCK’s steadfast commitment to safeguarding the media environment in Kenya. Accepting the certificate on behalf of the Council, acting CEO and Director for Media Training and Development, Victor Bwire, said: “This recognition by AMWIK is a great affirmation of our collective resolve to protect and strengthen press freedom in Kenya. A vibrant and independent media is the cornerstone of citizen participation in governance, and we remain committed to creating a safe, responsible, and enabling environment for all media practitioners to serve the public without fear or favour.” The certificate, signed by AMWIK, formally recognises MCK’s vital role in upholding press freedom and ethical standards across Kenya. MCK and AMWIK have enjoyed a long-standing and fruitful partnership, collaborating on initiatives that promote media excellence, gender inclusion, journalist safety, and professional training for women in the media sector. Their joint efforts include capacity-building programmes, policy advocacy, and support for a more equitable and vibrant media landscape in Kenya.
