Kenya Maritime Authority was set up in June 2004 as the semi-autonomous agency in charge of regulatory oversight over the Kenyan maritime industry. As the pacesetter of the Kenyan maritime industry, the Authority seeks to strengthen maritime administration in Kenya through enhancement of regulatory and institutional capacities for maritime safety and security, to foster effective implementation of international maritime conventions and other mandatory instruments on safety, security, promote maritime training, Search and Rescue, pollution prevention and the preservation of the marine environment as well as promote trade facilitation and maritime investments.Key Responsibilities     Assist in the Develop of the national oil spill response contingency plan for coastal and inland waterways Assist in the Review and update of the national oil spill response contingency plan for coastal and inland waters Assist in the Implementation of the national oil spill response contingency plan for coastal and inland waters Assist in the Implement strategies for monitoring and preventing oil spills in the coastal and inland waters Co-operate with relevant stakeholders in the protection of marine environment from shipping activities Assist in the Conduct of pollution prevention inspections of Kenyan ports and navigable waterways Assist in conducting public awareness campaigns on prevention of ship source pollution.  Assist in the Implementation of International Conventions and other instruments relating to marine pollution response and coordination Qualifications & Skills     ACADEMIC Certificate of Competency – Marine Engineer Officer (STCW) Certificate of Competency – Deck Officer (STCW) Bachelor’s Degree Mechanical Engineering Bachelor’s Degree Marine Engineering Bachelor’s Degree Marine Environment Bachelor’s Degree Nautical Science Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Studies
