GIZ implements, in collaboration with Expertise France, the EU co-funded regional project “Africa-Europe Partnerships for Culture: Audio-visual” which aims at strengthening strengthen the socio-economic relations between Africa and the EU, and foster intercultural dialogue among their citizens.

The sectoral scope covers film, series, animation, video gaming and immersive content. The project facilitates equitable cross-continental partnerships from co-productions to joint-ventures; from joint audience engagement strategies to innovation partnerships; and all other types of mutually benefitting co-creation formats along the entire audio-visual value chains. The implementation strategy is centred around the following outputs:

Strengthen cooperation between actors of the African and European audio-visual industry across the value chain

Connect European and African talents to develop together on a professional level, with a special emphasis on women

Increased access to Sub-Saharan Africa-EU co-productions for audiences, especially younger generations

The project has a Sub-Saharan Africa scope, with the team mainly operating out of Nairobi, Kenya.

As the Technical Advisor Market Intelligence you will support research and knowledge management and contribute to improving access to reliable data and sector innovations. You will contribute to improving market intelligence and the capacities of related stakeholder initiatives across both regions.

Furthermore, you will support the effective functioning of project governance structure as well as reporting processes. In this context, you will also collaborate closely with other regional, bilateral, and global GIZ projects as well as Expertise France and EU partners to ensure coherence and synergies across interventions.

Responsibilities: **

The Technical Advisor Distribution and Ecosystem fulfils the following tasks:

  1. Market Intelligence

Collaborate with stakeholders for generating, analysing, and harmonizing data on the audio-visual sector, with a focus on market intelligence, including market trends, audience behaviour, industry structures, and policy developments across film, animation, gaming, and immersive media

Contribute to the development of market intelligence systems and knowledge products that improve the availability, quality, and accessibility of sector data for stakeholders in Africa and Europe

Identify emerging trends, business models, and innovation opportunities (e.g. digital distribution, AI, new platforms), and translate insights into actionable recommendations

  1. Knowledge Management

Act as an external information desk in the provision of industry information with different distribution strategies

Coordinate the implementation and further development of the project’s monitoring and evaluation (M&E) framework, including indicator tracking, data collection, and results measurement

Support the preparation of reports and documentation for the European Union in line with contractual reporting requirements

Contribute to project governance processes, including the preparation and documentation of meetings with partners, stakeholders, and advisory structures

B. Required qualifications,competences and experience****

Qualifications****

You have a university degree in economics, development studies, media studies, public policy, statistics, or a related field


Professional experience****

Proven experience in conducting sectoral research and market analysis, ideally within the audiovisual, digital, or creative industries.

Strong analytical skills, including experience in data analysis, research design, and report writing.

Familiarity with results frameworks, indicators, and donor reporting requirements is an advantage.

Interest in innovation, digital transformation, and emerging trends in the audiovisual or creative industries sector is highly desirable.

Other knowledge, additional competences****

Ability to see and manage the bigger picture but care for details if needed

Ability to navigate uncertainty and drive impact in challenging environments.

Tech, film and game enthusiasts are welcome

High level of intercultural competence

Business fluency in English is vital.

Knowledge of German, French or Portuguese would be an advantage
