GIZ implements, in collaboration with Expertise France, the EU co-funded regional project “Africa-Europe Partnerships for Culture: Audio-visual” which aims at strengthening strengthen the socio-economic relations between Africa and the EU and foster intercultural dialogue among their citizens.
The sectoral scope covers film, series, animation, video gaming and immersive content. The project facilitates equitable cross-continental partnerships from co-productions to joint-ventures; from joint audience engagement strategies to innovation partnerships; and all other types of mutually benefitting co-creation formats along the entire audio-visual value chains. The implementation strategy is centred around the following outputs:
Strengthen cooperation between actors of the African and European audio-visual industry across the value chain
Connect European and African talents to develop together on a professional level, with a special emphasis on women
Increased access to Sub-Saharan Africa-EU co-productions for audiences, especially younger generations
The project has a Sub-Saharan Africa scope, with the team mainly operating out of Nairobi, Kenya.
The project contributes to building sustainable audiovisual ecosystems by strengthening networks between creators, distributors, platforms, broadcasters, and policy stakeholders.
As the Technical Advisor Distribution and Ecosystem Development you will support the strengthening of market linkages, distribution models, marketing and audience engagement between African and European stakeholders. You will contribute to improving how co-created audiovisual content reaches audiences and markets across both regions.
In order to reduce the fragmentation of the industries’ interventions and to well-position the project within a collaborative ecosystem, you will bring in your expertise in relationship management and community building. In this context, you will also collaborate closely with other regional, bilateral, and global GIZ projects as well as Expertise France and EU partners to ensure coherence and synergies across interventions.
Responsibilities**
The Technical Advisor Distribution and Ecosystem fulfils the following tasks:
- Strengthening Distribution and Market Access
Provide technical and methodological advice on distribution strategies, audience development, and market access for audio-visual content
Initiate and support partnerships between African and European distributors, broadcasters, publishers, streaming platforms, and other market actors
Contribute to improving dialogue and engagement around the circulation of audio-visual content
- Ecosystem Development and Partnerships
Facilitate cooperation mechanisms between industry stakeholders, including festivals, markets, industry platforms, and professional networks
Create synergize with ecosystem actors and initiatives to reduce fragmentation and foster collaboration
- Industry Engagement and Networking
Organise and support matchmaking, networking activities, and participation in international audio-visual markets and events
Support visibility and positioning of project-supported initiatives in relevant industry contexts
- Project Implementation and Coordination
Contribute to project planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting
Ensure alignment of activities with overall project objectives and other intervention areas
B. Required qualifications, competences and experience****
Qualifications****
We would love to get to know you if you are a strong team player but at the same time have a strong track record of self-motivation, giving creative impulses, and implementing them, learning new topics quickly and comprehensively
You have a university degree in in film, media studies, cultural management, economics, trade and marketing, or a related field
Professional experience****
At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in the audiovisual sector, particularly in distribution, market development, or international industry collaboration
Strong understanding of global audiovisual markets, including distribution channels and emerging platforms
Experience working with international partnerships, development programmes, or donor-funded projects is an asset
Proven experience in organising industry events, markets, or partnership initiatives
Other knowledge, additional competences****
Ability to see and manage the bigger picture but care for details if needed
Ability to navigate uncertainty and drive impact in challenging environments.
Tech, film and game enthusiasts are welcome
High level of intercultural competence
Business fluency in English is vital. Knowledge of German, French or Portuguese
