Reports to: Supply Chain / Planning Manager or Head of Operations
Job type: Full-time, on-site (may require occasional weekend during peaks)
**Key responsibilities: Daily / Operational **
• Run the MRP (daily or per agreed schedule) and review exception reports (shortages, overdue orders, surplus suggestions).
• Raise material requisitions/purchase requests for raw materials (flour, sugar, fats, additives), packaging (wrappers, cartons), and MRO items based on MRP outputs and safety stock levels.
• Monitor stock movements and update system stock balances after receipts, issues, and adjustments.
• Liaise with procurement to expedite critical items and confirm delivery ETA.
• Support production planner with real-time materials availability checks and clip-off decisions.
• Maintain accurate master data: BOMs (Bill of Materials), routings, lead times, scrap factors, pack sizes, and part descriptions. Weekly
• Reconcile physical stock vs. system balances for key SKUs; investigate and report variances.
• Prepare short-term material availability reports for the weekly production meeting.
• Validate supplier lead-time performance and highlight risks to Supply Chain Manager.
• Update and maintain ABC/FSN classifications and recommend changes to reorder points/safety stock where warranted. Monthly / Periodic
• Help produce the MRP-driven monthly procurement plan aligned with demand forecast and sales orders.
• Support month-end inventory close: assist stores team with cycle counts, adjustments and root-cause analysis.
• Review and update lead times, lot sizes, minimum order quantities, and safety stocks based on consumption history and supplier performance.
• Assist in new SKU introductions: set up BOMs, pack codes, and initial MRP parameters; confirm trial consumption and buffer levels
. • Contribute to continuous improvement activities: reduce carrying costs, improve forecast adherence, optimise order quantities. Strategic / Cross-functional
• Work with Demand Planner / Sales to reconcile forecast vs. actual consumption and adjust MRP inputs.
• Partner with Quality, Production and Procurement to resolve rejects, quarantines, and returned materials that affect availability.
• Support supplier development and alternate sourcing efforts by providing consumption and forecasting data.
• Participate in ERP implementation/upgrades and testing related to planning and inventory modules.
Technical skills & tools
• Strong hands-on experience with ERP systems (SAP MM/PP or Business One, Oracle NetSuite, Odoo, Microsoft Dynamics or similar).
• Proficient with Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, basic macros).
• Familiar with MRP concepts: BOM, lead time offsetting, pegging, safety stock calculation, lotsizing methods (EOQ, min-max).
• Understanding of GMP, food safety traceability (FIFO/LIFO where applicable), and shelf-life controls for perishable ingredients.
• Ability to interpret production schedules, master production schedule (MPS) and translate into material plans.
**Qualifications & experience **
• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, Food Technology or related field.
• 2–5 years’ hands-on experience in MRP/planning within an FMCG manufacturing environment — experience specifically in bakery/biscuit/snack manufacturing is highly desirable.
• Demonstrable experience working with ERP planning modules and material planning best practices.
• Knowledge of Kenyan procurement practices, import documentation (SAD forms, clearing processes) and local supplier landscape is an advantage.
