II. About Fursa
Fursa is CGO's flagship product and Africa's newest digital infrastructure project. It is an Afro-centric networking and opportunity platform designed for youth, entrepreneurs, organisations, and influential individuals across Africa. Fursa focuses on creating meaningful connections and providing opportunities such as upskilling, courses, job listings, and more.
Fursa combines communications and technology to promote economic empowerment and sustainable development at scale. It’s digital infrastructure built for the 21st century and the realities of a rapidly growing continent. The platform is currently in beta testing, onboarding its first cohort of users, and is entering a critical phase of growth and development.

III. Position Overview
CGO is seeking a skilled and motivated Lead Developer (Web and App) to join the Fursa team on a part-time, remote basis. This is a technical hire focused on supporting and advancing the development of the Fursa platform during and beyond its beta phase.
The successful candidate will work directly with CGO's existing team, contributing meaningfully to the ongoing build-out of a platform with continental ambition. This is not a maintenance role; it is an opportunity to actively shape a growing product at a defining moment in its development.
As Fursa scales, there is significant potential for this role to grow in scope, responsibility, and time commitment. The right candidate will be a genuine collaborator who brings both technical capability and a shared sense of purpose to the team.
IV. Roles & Responsibilities
Platform Development & Maintenance (Approx. 75% of time)
This is the core of the role and duties may include but are not limited to:
Building out, updating, and modifying platform features in line with product roadmap and team priorities Debugging and troubleshooting technical issues, ensuring platform stability and a smooth user experience Monitoring platform performance and implementing improvements as needed Contributing to UI and UX enhancements for the web platform and app versions (Apple and Android), ensuring accessibility, responsiveness, and visual consistency Managing API integrations and third-party service dependencies Maintaining version control and uphold collaborative development best practices Supporting the integration of new tools, features, or functionalities as the platform evolves
Community Management (Approx. 25% of time)
This side of the role will be carried out in close collaboration with the existing Fursa team. It is designed to provide guidance, introduce new perspectives and ideas, and contribute to the development of scalable workflows for managing and growing the Fursa community as well as ensure the integrity of the Fursa Trust Level system. It may include but is not limited to:
Gathering, organising, and synthesising user feedback to inform product development priorities Relaying communications with beta users and the broader Fursa community to the Fursa team Helping design and refine community management workflows and standard operating procedures Contributing ideas and perspectives on community engagement strategies suited to African digital audiences
V. Qualifications & Experience
Core Development Skills
The following technical competencies are specific to the Fursa platform stack and will be confirmed in consultation with the platform's original developer:
Supabase cloud Javascript / react native AsyncStorage local on-device key-value persistence Expo UI/ UX & Platform Design Demonstrable experience in UI and UX design for web platforms (best exemplified through portfolio submissions via the application link) Proficiency in designing and implementing mobile-responsive, accessible interfaces Familiarity with WCAG and inclusive design principles
Additional Technical Competencies
Experience with API integration and third-party service management Version control and collaborative development practices (e.g. Git/GitHub) Basic data analytics and the ability to interpret and act on platform usage metrics Understanding of platform security fundamentals and data privacy best practices Familiarity with community management and user feedback tools (e.g. help desks, feedback platforms, user research tools)
Minimum Experience
A minimum of 5–8 years of relevant professional experience in web or platform development Demonstrated experience working across the full development lifecycle, from build and launch through to ongoing maintenance and iteration Background in app and platform launch and development is a strong asset Experience working on social platforms, civic technology, or impact-driven digital products is preferred Formal qualifications in computer science, software engineering, or a related field are an advantage, though equivalent professional experience will be equally considered
Language Requirements
Fluency in English (native or C2 level) is mandatory Proficiency in Swahili and/or French is a strong asset Other African languages are a plus

VII. Logistical Requirements
Must be based in Africa (all countries on the continent are welcome to apply) Must have own computer equipment in good working order, capable of running development environments, web-based collaboration tools, and video conferencing software reliably Must have access to a reliable, high-speed internet connection (defined as a minimum of 25 Mbps download speed and 10 Mbps upload speed,) suitable for active web development workflows, real-time collaboration tools, and video conferencing Must be available and responsive during agreed working hours, with the ability to attend regular virtual team meetings
VIII. Compensation & Engagement Terms
Part-time engagement (specific hours to be confirmed with the successful candidate), under a service contract Candidates should be aware that compensation will be on a deferred basis or in the form of equity (specifics to be determined prior to engagement), as Fursa is actively soliciting funding from private sources That said, this role carries clear potential for growth in scope, hours, and responsibility as Fursa scales and the team expands. The successful candidate will be engaged as an independent contractor; specific terms will be set out in a formal agreement.
