MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB - (JOB SUMMARY)

The job holder will provide direct supervision and technical mentorship during clinical rotations to bridge the students' gap between classroom theory learning and real hands-on experience. He/she will train students in hands-on medical procedures while rigorously evaluating their practical skills, diagnostic reasoning, and ensuring the attainment of the mandatory logbook hours.

Main responsibilities.

  1. Clinical supervision: Guide students during ward rounds, outpatient clinics, and community placements, providing bedside teaching in history-taking, examinations, and clinical procedures while ensuring patient safety.

  2. Case debriefing: Lead post-round discussions to connect clinical findings with theoretical knowledge, fostering diagnostic reasoning and care-planning skills.

  3. Competency assessment: Evaluate student performance, provide constructive feedback, audit clinical logbooks, and oversee practical examinations such as OSCEs.

  4. Simulation lab instruction: Conduct procedural demonstrations and mock scenarios to build student confidence before hospital placements.

  5. Professional modeling: Teach ethical bedside manners, empathetic communication, and confidentiality, while coordinating student rotations with hospital staff.

  6. Administrative oversight: Maintain accurate records of student attendance, behavior, and performance across clinical rotations.

  2. Diagnostic capability: Enhance students’ clinical judgment by linking theoretical knowledge with practical case discussions and mentorship.

  3. Competency validation: Deliver accurate evaluations, constructive feedback, and logbook verification, ensuring successful OSCE completion and compliance with regulatory standards.

  4. Ethical professionalism: Promote exemplary bedside manner, communication, confidentiality, and ethics while coordinating rotations and maintaining performance records.

Work experience, academic & professional qualifications.

  1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited university.

  2. At least 3 years of experience in nursing education.

  3. A valid practice license from the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
