Company Description African Institute for Children Studies (AICS) is a non-governmental public institution dedicated to innovative solutions that address child survival, development, and welfare challenges. The organization focuses on strengthening the capacity of individuals and institutions that serve children across Africa and beyond. AICS delivers training, research, monitoring and evaluation, organizational capacity development, and pilot projects in child development and social protection. It also engages in policy and advocacy, consultancies, and manages an Education Fund that supports sponsorships for children. Guided by its vision and mission, AICS aims to improve the quality of services to children and drive meaningful, lasting change in their lives. Role Description The Owner will provide strategic leadership and overall direction for AICS, ensuring that the institute’s vision, mission, and values are effectively implemented in all programs and operations. This full-time, on-site role, based in Nairobi, involves overseeing organizational strategy, governance, and financial sustainability, including budgeting, resource mobilization, and partnership development. The Owner will supervise senior staff, guide program design and implementation across training, research, social labs, and advocacy, and ensure that all activities align with child-focused outcomes and ethical standards. Day-to-day responsibilities include engaging with key stakeholders, representing AICS in national, regional, and international forums, and driving innovation in capacity building and child welfare interventions. The role also requires monitoring institutional performance, strengthening systems and processes, and fostering a culture of learning, accountability, and collaboration. Qualifications Demonstrated leadership and governance experience in non-profit, public sector, or social enterprise organizations, ideally focused on children’s rights, child development, or social protection. Proven track record in strategic planning, organizational development, and change management, with the ability to set clear priorities and drive execution. Strong experience in financial management, fundraising, and resource mobilization, including working with donors, governments, and institutional partners. Expertise in program design, monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL), particularly in training, research, policy, or social innovation related to children’s services. Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills, with the ability to represent the organization at high levels and influence policy and practice. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly to diverse audiences and cultures. Advanced degree in Social Sciences, Education, Public Health, Public Policy, Child Development, or a related field is strongly preferred. Commitment to child safeguarding, equity, and ethical practice, with a demonstrated passion for improving the lives and welfare of children.
