Product Manager

Rare Carat

Product Management and Marketing full time Kenya Posted 3 hours ago

Us in a glimpse:

Founded in 2016 by a BCG consultant frustrated with his engagement ring buying experience, Rare Carat has grown to be one of the largest diamond jewelry online retailers in the United States. It was called the “Secret to Buying A Diamond” by the New York Times.

Rarecarat.com powers over $100m in annual sales by creating transparency in a historically opaque industry using AI indicators and human expert advice. Operating on an innovative "managed marketplace" business model, the company combines the selection advantages of a marketplace with the quality assurance of a traditional retailer.

We have grown to over 180+ employees, but remain a very flat and close-knit team committed to learning from each other, and having the best idea win.

Rare Carat is run by Wharton and Harvard Business School grads. Advisors include TrueCar’s founder, Blue Nile’s ex-CEO, Wharton’s Innovation Dean, and Richard Branson’s Venture Capital head. We have been featured in the New York Times, TechCrunch, NPR, USA Today, CNBC, among others.

Wondering why work with us? Here’s why:

We are a fully remote start-up, growing quickly from under 5 people to close to 180 in just six years Our culture is unique: we have a global, remote team of young people taking on more responsibility than most companies would give. We have a bias for action, and a meritocracy where the best ideas win We help customers with the most important purchase of their life so far, their engagement ring. Marrying humans and technology to help our customers make the right decision is thrilling and rewarding If you are the right fit for our rocketship - we would make you an offer, you can’t refuse :)

The Role: We're hiring a full-stack Product Manager who has 2-4 years of experience of these four disciplines:

Technically sound. You understand how a fullstack system works, reason about a schema, ship a working prototype in Cursor or Claude Code, and have a real conversation with engineering about trade-offs. You don't need to be an engineer- you need to be technical enough that nobody has to slow down to explain things to you. Design sense. You have an eye for craft and care about customer-facing detail. You can spot bad UX immediately, draft Figma flows when needed, and partner with design on hierarchy, tone, and interaction - not just "ship the spec." Product experience. You've shipped real products before. You write crisp PRDs, instrument what you ship, run experiments, and know what "done" looks like in production. You've felt the difference between a feature that moves a metric and a feature that just gets built. Business sense. You understand unit economics, AOV, conversion, contact rate, and CAC - and why they matter. You can read a P&L, defend a roadmap against "what's this worth?", and prioritize accordingly.

This is a generalist seat for someone who's hungry to own a lot of surface area. You'll set a roadmap, write specs, run experiments, ship with engineers, and - when the moment calls for it - open your IDE (or your tool of choice) and build the prototype yourself. You'll report into product leadership and work closely with our engineering, design, gemology, supply, and operations teams.

What You'll Own You'll have broad ownership across some of the most important parts of the business, and the freedom to chase new ones as they emerge: Product search experience and assortment - how customers navigate our catalog, what they see, and how confidently they get from browsing to buying. A fast-growing fine jewelry merchandising surface - the browse, collection, and gifting experiences for our expanding jewelry assortment. Conversational AI agents - build the agents and internal tools that scale our support team expertise across every customer touchpoint. Many new initiatives - this is a high-trust seat. As the business grows, you'll pick up new bets, prototype them, and decide which ones become real.

Across all of this, you'll be expected to: Define, instrument, and read your own metrics Spike prototypes yourself when it's faster than briefing someone else Spend time with our gemologists and customers - this is not a job you can do from a dashboard

What We're Looking For Must-haves 2-4 years of product management experience Shipped meaningful surface area in e-commerce or consumer transactional products (bonus if it was a high-consideration / high-AOV category) Deep, daily, hands-on use of modern AI tools - Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, v0, Linear AI, etc. - not just "we used GPT once for a feature" "Vibe coding" comfort: you can spin up a working prototype in Cursor / Claude Code / Replit, ship a TypeScript or Python script, query a database, or hack on a model output without waiting for engineering Strong commercial instincts: you can read a P&L, spot the unit economics question hiding inside a roadmap debate, and prioritize accordingly Sharp written communication - we write a lot here A bias toward shipping, learning in production, and cutting scope to ship sooner

Nice-to-have Past work building agentic / LLM-powered products, eval pipelines, or RAG systems in production Experience with search ranking, recommendation systems, or merchandising tools Worked in a vertically integrated business (manufacturing + retail + support) A point of view on the future of luxury / considered-purchase e-commerce

What we're not looking for A pure delivery PM whose strength is grooming someone else's backlog Someone who wants to specialize narrowly in a single surface for the next three years A skeptic of AI tooling. We move fast because we use these tools all day, every day

How we work High ownership, low ceremony. Small teams, short feedback loops, no theatrical process. AI-native by default. We expect every PM, designer, and engineer to be using AI tools to be 5-10x faster at their craft. Honest, direct feedback. We trust each other enough to say the thing.

Logistics Location: Fully remote, work from anywhere.
