In 1998, CURE International, in cooperation with the African Inland Church, opened the AIC-CURE International Hospital in Kijabe, Kenya. Along with being CUREâÂÂs first hospital, CURE Kenya was AfricaâÂÂs first orthopedic pediatric teaching hospital for children with disabilities. The 30-bed hospital provides care for children suffering from a wide range of orthopedic conditions, such as clubfoot, burn contractures, osteomyelitis, and other acquired or congenital conditions. The hospital also conducts mobile clinics to identify children in remote areas who can be treated at the hospital and to provide follow-up care for those who have received surgery. Located in the Rift Valley city of Kijabe, the hospital attracts patients from every region of the country. Through the training of surgeons, nurses, and healthcare professionals, CURE Kenya aims to improve the countryâÂÂs overall capacity to treat disabled children.POSITION OVERVIEW: The position is responsible for the day-to-day medical management of outpatients and supervising and teaching the junior medical staff. The MO initiates the care and review of outpatients and is in contact with the primary surgeons about any significant change to a patient's condition to seek advice about treatment and management. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Essential Functions/Responsibilities: Perform diagnostic/therapeutic procedures within the MO’s scope of clinical practice, as required Review of relevant pathology, radiology and other diagnostic reports and communicate relevant results to the primary surgeon. Accurately record, in the patient’s medical record, the history, examination, management plans, investigations and action taken Assist with coordinating care to optimize patient flow through the facility Review all outpatients and inpatients in consultation with the relevant residents and/or primary surgeons. Set in train the diagnosis and management of the patient’s condition, including ordering necessary radiology and pathology tests, prescribing appropriate medication, and arranging referral for consultation where required. Provide “teaching on the run” to junior medical staff. Communicate with the patient, and/or the immediate family, about his/her condition. Ensure that at all times the Medical Officer is licensed. Supervises clinical support services, including Pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, biomed, and nutritional services. Supervises all clinical officers in the facility. Participate in quality management activities within the department as per the Hospital Quality standards.
