Amnesty Kenya was founded in 2002 and operates with specific goals and objectives for improving lives and upholding human rights for the citizens of Kenya and the surrounding areas. These initiatives include, but are not limited to: Right to Adequate Housing and Safety in Impoverished Neighborhoods Sexual and Gender Based Violence Education on Improving Relations Between Law Enforcement and Residents Growth and Human Rights Education Active Involvement of Youth for a Better Tomorrow Amnesty Kenya operates independently of any government, political ideology or religion and we are funded mainly by our membership and public donations. It is our hope that people-from every walk of life-enjoy all the rights outlined by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights standards. Our efforts have affected positive change, but there is still work to be done.MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES Lead research on unlawful targeted surveillance against civil society and research into the surveillance industry Track surveillance companies and technical infrastructure of spyware and phishing attacks against civil society Assist Human Rights Defenders with digital security and forensics analysis of their devices Capacity building for partner organisations to assist them to do research on targeted surveillance Collaborate with colleagues in the Security Lab and other parts of the Amnesty movement to ensure that research supports broader campaigning and advocacy activities Build relationships with other civil society organisations working on combating unlawful surveillance of human rights defenders SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Experience in technical investigations to identify, map and track spyware or phishing campaigns, in threat intelligence, and in malware analysis, with emphasis on confidentiality and operational security Proven ability to investigate cyber-surveillance from state actors and the surveillance industry Significant experience doing mobile device forensics on Android, iOS, or both Knowledge of how sophisticated digital threats, including surveillance, impact civil society globally, and/or in a specific world region Existing record of publications on digital security or surveillance issues Development knowledge (preferably in python or go) will be a plus Familiarity with risk assessment methodologies and ability to conduct them during investigations and research projects
