The Aga Khan Academy Nairobi is operated by Aga Khan Education Service Kenya (AKESK), a non-profit organization, with close to a hundred years’ experience operating schools in Kenya. Our first formal schools were opened in 1918, and AKESK currently operates 11 schools in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu and Eldoret, serving close to 5,000 students with a quality, affordable education.Role Summary The Mathematics Teacher will deliver engaging, inquiry-driven instruction within the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP), fostering mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, critical thinking and conceptual understanding. The role involves guiding students in the exploration and application of mathematical concepts across a range of contexts while developing their analytical, communication and research skills. The teacher will contribute to a collaborative teaching environment, promote international-mindedness and support the holistic development of students as reflective, knowledgeable and responsible global citizens aligned with the Academy’s mission and IB philosophy. Key Responsibilities: Plan and deliver high-quality lessons in IB MYP Mathematics and DP Mathematics. Design inquiry-based learning experiences aligned with IB frameworks. Develop and implement schemes of work, unit plans and assessments in line with IB standards. Foster mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, modelling and analytical thinking skills in students. Support students in developing conceptual understanding and applying mathematics to real-world contexts. Prepare students for internal and external IB assessments, including coursework and examinations where applicable. Monitor, assess and provide timely feedback on student progress using IB assessment criteria. Integrate technology and digital tools to enhance teaching, learning and assessment practices. Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary units and curriculum development. Promote academic honesty and uphold IB Learner Profile attributes. Participate in co-curricular activities, student mentorship, and school events. Contribute to departmental planning, curriculum review and continuous improvement initiatives. Create an inclusive learning environment that supports diverse student needs and backgrounds. Support the IB Core programme in MYP and/or DP. The requirements Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or a related field with a teaching qualification. Minimum of 3 years' experience teaching IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) Mathematics and/or IB Diploma Programme (DP) Mathematics. Strong understanding of inquiry-based learning and concept-driven curriculum design. Experience preparing students for IB Diploma Mathematics examinations is an added advantage. Teachers Service Commission (TSC) registration certificate is mandatory. Excellent communication, collaboration and classroom management skills. Demonstrated commitment to student wellbeing, safeguarding and holistic development.
