ROLE PURPOSE

The Head of Digital Transformation is responsible for leading and coordinating the organisation’s digital transformation agenda, acting as the critical link between business leadership, operational functions, and technology teams. The role provides strategic direction, governance, and oversight of digital initiatives, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities and measurable business outcomes across retail, commercial, supply, distribution, and corporate functions.

The position plays a central role in identifying digital opportunities, shaping transformation strategies, prioritising investments, managing complex cross functional initiatives, and driving adoption across the organisation. The incumbent will champion digital innovation, process optimisation, automation, and data driven decision making while promoting strong governance, cybersecurity awareness, and compliance within a highly regulated operating environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Business Strategy & Digital Alignment

Develop strong relationships with executive leadership and business unit leaders to understand strategic priorities, operational challenges, and transformation opportunities.

Translate business objectives into structured digital initiatives that support growth, operational efficiency, risk management, and customer experience enhancement.

Provide strategic guidance on technology enabled opportunities across fuel operations, logistics, supply chain management, commercial activities, and corporate functions.

Evaluate and refine business requirements to maximise value creation and alignment with organisational objectives.

Serve as the primary point of contact for digital transformation initiatives across the organisation.

Digital Transformation Strategy & Roadmap

Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the organisation’s digital transformation roadmap.

Align digital initiatives with broader business objectives, operational priorities, and long term strategic plans.

Identify opportunities for process digitalisation, workflow optimisation, automation, and enhanced operational visibility.

Monitor emerging technologies and industry trends relevant to the oil and gas sector, including automation, data analytics, mobility solutions, artificial intelligence, and operational technology integration.

Support executive leadership in defining and communicating the organisation’s digital vision and transformation priorities.

Portfolio Management & Governance

Establish and manage a structured portfolio of digital transformation initiatives across the business.

Develop prioritisation frameworks that consider business value, operational impact, risk, regulatory requirements, and resource availability.

Prepare executive reports, business cases, and decision support materials for governance forums and steering committees.

Monitor portfolio performance and resource allocation to maximise organisational value.

Maintain visibility of initiative progress, dependencies, risks, budgets, and expected outcomes.

Digital Programme & Project Leadership

Lead strategic and enterprise wide digital transformation programmes from concept through implementation and adoption.

Define governance structures, objectives, milestones, budgets, and success measures for transformation initiatives.

Coordinate internal stakeholders, technology teams, external vendors, and implementation partners.

Monitor programme delivery against agreed timelines, budgets, and quality standards.

Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies to support successful execution.

Drive accountability and collaboration across multiple functions and business units.

Change Management & Adoption

Develop and implement change management strategies that support successful adoption of digital solutions.

Engage business leaders and end users throughout the transformation lifecycle to build commitment and ownership.

Coordinate communication, stakeholder engagement, training, and user enablement activities.

Measure adoption levels, business impact, and return on investment following implementation.

Promote digital capability development and a culture of continuous improvement across the organisation.

Governance, Risk Management & Cybersecurity

Lead and continuously improve the organisation’s IT Steering Committee and digital governance framework.

Collaborate closely with IT, cybersecurity, data protection, and compliance teams to strengthen governance and risk management practices.

Support the identification, assessment, and mitigation of technology, operational, and cybersecurity risks.

Promote compliance with corporate policies, regulatory requirements, industry standards, and data protection obligations.

Contribute to internal audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews where applicable.

Monitor the security and governance implications of digital transformation initiatives throughout their lifecycle.

Continuous Improvement & Digital Culture

Drive continuous improvement in digital transformation methodologies, governance frameworks, and delivery practices.

Capture lessons learned and best practices from completed initiatives to strengthen organisational capability.

Promote innovation, collaboration, and knowledge sharing across business functions.

Champion a pragmatic and value driven approach to digital transformation.

Support the development of a digitally enabled culture that encourages innovation, accountability, and operational excellence.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Information Systems, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.

Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, Digital Transformation, Technology Management, Engineering, or a related discipline will be an added advantage.

Professional certifications in Project Management, Programme Management, Agile Methodologies, Change Management, Digital Transformation, IT Governance, or Cybersecurity will be highly desirable.

Minimum of 10 years’ experience in digital transformation, technology leadership, programme management, business technology alignment, or related roles.

Demonstrated experience leading enterprise wide digital transformation initiatives within complex and operationally intensive environments.

Experience within the oil and gas, energy, manufacturing, logistics, utilities, or other asset intensive industries will be highly desirable.

Proven experience working with executive leadership teams, governance committees, and senior business stakeholders.

Strong understanding of enterprise applications, business systems, operational technologies, digital platforms, cybersecurity, and technology enabled business transformation.

Experience managing technology vendors, implementation partners, and consulting organisations.
