Job Description Field officers will support the implementation, monitoring, and documentation of FOPCO Africa’s community-based programs. This role requires individuals who are comfortable working in rural areas and informal urban settlements, traveling frequently, and maintaining accurate records while working closely with indigenous community members and local authorities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities Community Mobilization and Training: Mobilize, register, and sensitize community members on climate- and nutrition-responsive agricultural practices, market-responsive production systems, WASH strategies, public health, and adult education. Organize and facilitate field days, practical demonstrations, multi-stakeholder co-creation sessions, and policy advocacy workshops.
Data Collection, Monitoring, and Evaluation: Collect accurate quantitative and qualitative data using various data collection tools, such as KoboToolbox. Assist with data cleaning, analysis, and general data management. Conduct regular monitoring visits and provide tailored support according to program needs.
Digital Sensitization: Support the sensitization, onboarding, and training of community members on digital literacy and utilization of FOPCO Africa’s digital platforms. Mobilize, network with, and provide technical support to local, farmer-facing grassroots organizations on the use and diffusion of FOPCO Africa’s digital tools.
Stakeholder Engagement and Logistical Support: Liaise with county government officers, local chiefs, cooperatives, and other relevant stakeholders to initiate partnerships to create premium markets for farmers. Coordinate the tracking, distribution, and accountability of project inputs and materials.
Reporting and Documentation: Prepare timely weekly and monthly field updates, success stories, case studies, and meeting minutes.
Other Duties: Perform any other tasks as directed by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or Higher Diploma in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agricultural Extension, Agricultural Resource Management, Community Development, Food, Nutrition and Dietetics, Education, Social Sciences, or any other related field.
Experience: At least three years of proven experience in community sensitization, agricultural extension, health and nutrition extension, or field research.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in digital data collection platforms, such as KoboToolbox, ODK, and Google Forms, as well as standard computer applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel. Basic knowledge of data analysis tools such as SPSS, NVivo, SAS, R, or Python is desirable.
Languages: Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Kiswahili are highly desirable. Fluency in local languages spoken in the target counties will be a distinct advantage.
Logistics: Candidates must be willing to travel extensively across project sites. A valid motorcycle riding license is highly preferred for positions based in Kisumu, Kakamega, and Narok Counties.
Residency: Qualified residents of the target counties, or candidates possessing strong geographical knowledge of the project counties, are highly encouraged to apply.
