Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation established through the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979, which has since been amended to Science, Technology and Innovation Act 2013. The 1979 Act established KEMRI as a National body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya.Key Responsibilities: Design and implement testing procedures for specimens received as part of disease outbreak investigations in the country and the region Design and implement testing procedures for specialized studies as required by the Laboratory Director Work as part of the Microbiology, ELISA, and molecular testing team Carry out initial analysis of data collected by the laboratory and liaise with data and epidemiologists on further analysis Write manuscripts on research carried out by the laboratory as required by the Laboratory Director Receive and consent participants referred to the Eremet health center onsite laboratory for specimen collection Perform phlebotomy and prepare samples for investigation purposes Collect oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal swabs as required Accurately label and analyze samples (blood, NP/OPs, tissue etc.) Proper documentation of applicable study data during all study procedures Perform routine maintenance of lab equipment Monitor the status of laboratory supplies and make necessary orders Complete QA/QC assignments on laboratory data, samples and records Keep lab work areas clean and organized Assist with laboratory administrative duties. Any other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor Vacancy Requirements: Must have a BSc. Degree in Biological Sciences or equivalent    Mandatory Must have at least 1 year of experience following the attainment of the degree    Mandatory  Must have microbiology and molecular biology skills, including real-time RT-PCR    Mandatory Fluency in English, Turkana, and Swahili, both written and spoken.    Mandatory Be registered and have a valid practicing license from the KMLLTB    Mandatory Certificate in “Good Clinical Practice” and/or “Human Subjects Protection.”    Mandatory Computer literacy in the Microsoft Office suite.    Mandatory Someone who has experience working in Isiolo County    Mandatory Analytical Skills    Skills & Competencies Excellent communication skills, ability to work well in a team    Skills & Competencies Experience working knowledge in research    Skills & Competencies Excellent interpersonal and organization skills    Skills & Competencies
