Ol Pejeta is the largest black rhino sanctuary in east Africa, and home to three of the world’s last remaining northern white rhino. It is the only place in Kenya to see chimpanzees, in a Sanctuary established to rehabilitate animals rescued from the black market. It has some of the highest predator densities in Kenya, and still manages a very successful livestock programme. Ol Pejeta also seeks to support the people living around its borders, to ensure wildlife conservation translates to better education, healthcare and infrastructure for the next generation of wildlife guardians. In 2004, the ranch was purchased by the U.K.-based conservation organisation, Fauna &Flora International (FFI), with the financial backing of the Arcus Foundation, a private international philanthropic organisation founded by Jon Stryker. The land purchase was wholly funded by a $15 million donation from the Arcus Foundation, which worked in tandem with FFI and the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy to secure the 90,000 acres of open Savannah grassland and convert it to a national land trust. The conservation of the natural habitat, located in Kenya’s Laikipia Plateau, ensured the protection of existing rhino, elephant, and other wildlife populations in addition to captive chimpanzees living in a 300-acre sanctuary. The Arcus Foundation also gave $12 million to fund capital and institutional development costs at the conservancy. That initial injection of funding allowed Ol Pejeta Conservancy to fulfill its business model as a Kenyan-owned operation benefiting local community development and economic growth in addition to its impact on conservation. Today, the Arcus Foundation continues to support the conservancy through its membership on the Board of Trustees and the funding of various initiatives. In 2014, Ol Pejeta achieved IUCN Green List status, one of only two conservancies in Africa to be awarded this. IUCN Green Listing aims to define excellence in managing valuable natural areas. We have also been awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence three years running - a testament to the incredible experiences treasured by all who visit Ol Pejeta. In 2015, we published our 2020 Management Plan - which was developed by our staff in consultation with a range of stakeholders, and sets out our vision for the years leading up to 2020, outlining the major projects that will help us to deliver our vision. We want to become an innovative and sustainable model that conserves biodiversity (particularly endangered species) and contributes to economic growth and the improvement of the livelihoods of rural communities. Role Summary  The driver will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of personnel, goods, and equipment within and outside Ol Pejeta Conservancy (OPC). The role also includes routine vehicle maintenance, ensuring compliance with traffic laws and supporting logistical operations as required.  Responsibilities  Safe and Responsible Driving: Operate assigned Conservancy vehicles safely, responsibly, and efficiently, transporting employees, guests, goods, equipment and materials to designated locations within and outside the Conservancy.  Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance: Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections and routine checks to ensure that vehicles are roadworthy and all essential components are functioning properly. Promptly report defects, damage, unusual noises, mechanical issues or maintenance requirements.  Journey Management and Documentation: Accurately complete journey authorisation forms, logbooks, trip sheets and other required transport documentation before and after each journey. Maintain accurate records of destinations, mileage, fuel consumption,  passengers and other relevant journey details.  Compliance with Applicable Traffic Laws, Internal Policies and SOPs: Ensure all driving activities comply with applicable laws, the Conservancy’s policies and procedures of operations.  Passenger Safety and Service: Ensure the safe and professional transportation of staff,  guests, visitors and other authorised passengers. Exercise courtesy, professionalism and discretion at all times and provide a positive representation of the Conservancy while undertaking official duties. Goods and Equipment Handling: Ensure that goods, equipment, materials and other items are properly loaded, secured and transported to prevent loss or damage. Verify deliveries and collections and obtain appropriate acknowledgement or signatures from the receiving party.  Fuel and Resource Management: Follow approved fuel management procedures, maintain accurate fuel records and promptly report any fuel discrepancies, unusual consumption or suspected misuse. Use Conservancy vehicles and resources efficiently and responsibly.  Accident and Incident Reporting: Immediately report any accident, traffic incident,  vehicle damage, breakdown, security incident or other occurrence involving a conservancy vehicle to the relevant supervisor and complete the required incident documentation.  Communication and Coordination: Maintain effective communication with the relevant supervisor and departments regarding vehicle availability, journeys, delays, breakdowns, changes in schedules and any other transport-related matters.  Vehicle Cleanliness and Care: Maintain assigned vehicles in a clean, orderly and presentable condition and ensure that vehicle accessories, tools, emergency equipment and safety equipment are properly maintained and available when required.  Health and Safety: Comply with all applicable occupational health and safety requirements and Conservancy safety procedures. Use prescribed personal protective equipment (PPE) and observe safe working practices at all times.  Any Other Duties: Perform any other lawful and reasonable duties related to the role as may be assigned by the supervisor or management from time to time.  Minimum Qualifications  Minimum of an O-Level Certificate or equivalent qualification.  Must hold a valid and current driving license covering Classes B, C, and D. A valid driving license covering Classes E and/or G will be an added advantage. Certification in defensive driving and/or vehicle maintenance will be an added advantage. Applicants holding a Class F driving license are also encouraged to apply.  Experience  Minimum of 5 years of continuous driving experience with relevant vehicle classes.  Key Skills & Competencies  Strong driving skills and understanding of vehicle maintenance.  Ability to follow instructions and adhere to safety protocols.  Good communication and interpersonal skills.  High level of integrity, discipline, and professionalism.  Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
